2015, Ross Lovegrove
These unique pieces are designed for a private commission and they are made out of solid aluminium. The concept investigates a series of 3D textures and finishing. A custom made script can adapt infinitely and interactively to ensure that the topology of each piece is always obtained from a ball-nose end mill with a given diameter. Since all you need is just a single tool we generate a fast, optimised and therefore cost-effective machining process. The script also allows an automated pre-polishing process for the best result in the final blasting. Here the prototyping went beyond the design intent, having me involved in providing and testing the machining tool path data.
